Analysis of Srila Prabhupada’s “Direction of Management”, the DOM
Removal of Temple Presidents
The initial of “TP” will be used for “Temple President”.
[This direction of management is interesting for two reasons, the first one is,
“TP’s can only be removed with consent of temple devotees.”
Since this ‘Direction of Management’ is signed by Srila Prabhupada.
This gives both legal and moral protection in the event of the GBC unilaterally taking any action.
However, in 1975, a GBC resolution was passed that took the power away from the members of each temple. The TPs could be removed by 3 GBCs, but this states that this can ONLY be done in the following cases:
- TP does not submit reports.
- TP mis-spends money.
- TP does not follow regulative principles.
Otherwise, it states that “there should be NO CHANGE of presidents” and only that “difficulties should be worked out”; (GBC RESOLUTION 4, March 26th, 1975.]
